Berger Picards - Now showing- Always owner handled
What adjectives describe a Berger Picard? Lively, intelligent, sweet-tempered, mischevious, curious, sensitive, laid back, stubborn, loyal...all wrapped up in a scruffy package!
We began researching this breed about 3 years ago and were fortunate enough to bring Jackson into our lives October 2013. Yes, he is a herding dog and is a rare breed for the time being. We spent many an evening and show weekend with another Liz Hansen Sketchbook Berger Picard, Sketchbook High Voltage -Sparky -who lives with our friends Michael Vanek and Nicki Dobson and being around him sealed the deal.. We are so very happy to bring awareness to others and to work diligently to preserve the breed standard.
In July 2014, we added Sketchbook Fiona. We couldn't ask for a better girl! She is so sweet and loving. She loves playing with Jackson as well as the Aussies. It was love at first sight and are so happy that we were able to bring her into our lives. Nicki Dobson co-owns Fiona with us and we will all enjoy showing her at AKC and UKC shows very soon.

- BERGER PICARD 101
- The correct French pronunciation of Berger Picard is bare ZHAY pee CARR. Berger is the French word for shepherd and Picard is the region in France where they are from. Liz Hansen and Elizabeth Richards, Jackson's breeders, wrote the following article... it's a great read about Berger Picards.
The United Kennel Club regognizaed the Berger Picard on January 1, 1994. In 2006, the Berger Picard Club of America was formed to protect and promote the breed in the United States. The Foundation Stock Service of the American Kennel Club recorded the Berger Picard since April 2007. On October 12, 2011, the American Kennel Club chose the Berger Picard Club of America as the official parent club, as the breed moves towards full recognition. The Berger Picard moved into the Miscellaneous Group effective January 1, 2013. Looking forward to full admittance into the AKC Herding group in July 2015.

Growing up with Jackson
Jackson is a jester. He never misses a thing...a new toy, a piece of furniature out of place, a coat hung over the back of a chair will be on the floor before you know it. He has a gentleness that equals his curisoity, He makes us smile everyday.
